Working as a Food service worker
A food service worker (ruokapalvelutyöntekijä) can work in a preparation kitchen or a day-care centre, for example.
When working in a preparation or production kitchen, a food service worker can, for example, assist in food preparation, prepare salads, serve and distribute food, take care of dishwashing and clean the kitchen and equipment.
When working in a heating kitchen, the job description may include the preparation of salads and side dishes, self-monitoring, dishwashing, kitchen cleaning, serving line maintenance, wholesale delivery unloading and other assistive tasks.
When working in a day-care centre, the work of a food service worker may also include setting up the groups’ serving trolleys and presenting snacks. In a day-care centre kitchen, the food service worker works alone when washing dishes in the afternoon and conducting the final cleaning.
There is plenty of work available, so employees can customise a package that suits their own schedule. Work is available from one-day substitutions to longer employment relationships. Shifts mostly take place on weekdays, from 7:00 to 15:00.
