Working as a daycare assistant
A daycare assistant ensures that the daycare facilities are clean for the children and other staff.
The tasks involve cleaning the daycare facilities, cleaning the floors and toilets daily, wiping the tables and chairs after meals, and taking out the rubbish. The duties also entail clothing maintenance tasks, such as hanging the children’s wet clothes up to dry and washing their rainwear.
There is usually only one daycare assistant per daycare centre; in larger daycare centres, the work tasks are shared with a colleague. The duties of a daycare assistant partly vary between daycare centres.
The work often consists of short gigs lasting 1–2 days. Gigs are often offered on the morning of the working day. Work is available on weekdays between 7:00 and 16:00, and the length of shifts varies.
